For Shopify-hosted stores, Shopify Payments is the path of least resistance. It is built into the platform, removes the additional 0.5–2% transaction fee that Shopify charges on third-party gateways, and includes Shop Pay's accelerated checkout. Revolut Pay rarely replaces it. The realistic comparison is whether to add Revolut Pay alongside Shopify Payments to capture EU and UK A2A volume at a lower rate.
At a Glance
Shopify Payments is the gateway. Revolut Pay is a checkout button and a multi-currency acquiring stack that happens to be one of the cheapest A2A flows on the market. The two are complements more than competitors. For background on Revolut Pay specifically, see the full Revolut Pay review.
Fee Comparison
UK GBP pricing as of April 2026. Shopify Payments rates step down as you move up the Shopify plan tiers; Revolut Pay rates step down with custom volume.

| Settlement | 2–3 business days | ~24h incl. weekends |
Settlement and Cash Flow
Revolut Pay's 24-hour settlement, weekends included, is one of its strongest operational advantages over Shopify Payments. Shopify Payments typically pays out two to three business days after capture, with the timing tightening on Advanced and Plus plans. For thin-margin or seasonal stores running paid acquisition, the faster cycle can free working capital that would otherwise sit in transit.
Integration and Setup
Shopify Payments wins on integration friction. There is nothing to install, the checkout is native, and Shop Pay's saved-card and biometric flow is built in. Revolut Pay sits one layer up: install the Revolut Business app or use the additional-payment-methods slot, and Revolut Pay appears as a button on the standard Shopify checkout. The setup is short but it is one more thing to configure and maintain.
Multi-Currency Selling
Shopify Markets, paired with Shopify Payments, handles presentment and settlement in many currencies but charges an FX margin on conversion. Revolut Business holds balances in 35+ currencies and uses interbank rates on the Business plan tier, which is materially cheaper for stores with meaningful non-domestic sales. For stores selling internationally at any scale, the multi-currency layer is a stronger reason to add Revolut Pay than the per-transaction rate. See cross-border payments for the broader context.
Loyalty and Repeat Conversion
Shop Pay's accelerated checkout reportedly lifts repeat-buyer conversion by 5–10% by reusing saved card and shipping data. Revolut Pay's RevPoints engine offers a different mechanic: customers earn points on every purchase and merchants can run double-points campaigns at no extra cost, with Revolut reporting a 12% spend lift on participating brands. The two layers do not conflict; they target different segments of the buyer base.
The Stacked-Checkout Pattern
The pattern most EU and UK Shopify stores converge on in 2026 is: Shopify Payments as the primary card gateway with Shop Pay enabled, plus Revolut Pay as a secondary button for the meaningful share of UK and EU buyers who prefer A2A. PayPal often joins the stack as a third button for cross-border trust. The combined effect is a lower blended fee than running Shopify Payments alone, without adding the 0.5–2% Shopify third-party-gateway penalty.
Verdict
Shopify Payments stays as the default for any Shopify-hosted store. Revolut Pay earns its place as a secondary checkout button for EU and UK exposure, especially on Basic and Shopify plan tiers where the Shopify Payments rate is highest and where the 24-hour settlement and multi-currency layer compound the savings.
